Yes, it is a good book in my opinion (others may not agree).
However, it is focused only on Belgian FN pistols - so no information on P38s, Lugers, Mausers, Walthers, Sauers, Radom VIS-35, etc...

I wonder why others disagree. The sample pages I've seen looked really interesing and promising.

Guess it's also hard to write fully detailed books with all kinds of pistols included. Hard to go really in-depth I guess. But of course I'm always on the look out for more interesting, helpful books.

I like them! The black 'plastic' handgrips are from the earlier model if I'm correct, right? That's one I will go and look for soon as well. ...as long as it's WW2 period used that is. I've noticed that those earlier models with these black grips are a bit cheaper than those with wooden grips. I would expect it the other way around so the older would be more expensive.

Anyway, nice pair of pistols

Thank you fopr the comments and yes the wood gripped pistols seem to bring more $$. I think is tis because nearly all are WaA proofed as opposed to the black plastic girps that are not always WaA proofed. But I dbelieve the black gripped models are harder to find, as are the .380 cal. pistols.

Seems that overhere the black plastic grips are more common (with and without WaA stamps). Just a pity that all are de-activated here in western Europe.

This seems to be the way things are anymore on a forum like this one unless someone posts a questionable item. In that case they'll get jumped on. The only one who remarked on the example I posted above was Marcel who originated this thread and this came as no surprise to me.
Now if I had posted this Astra 400 and claimed it was "Factory Original" you can bet there would have been several comments some of which may have even supported my claim!

Yes, unfortunately you are correct. I have posted numerous items for comment but they all are of very nice and original pieces and no one says a thing about them . It is a real shame that this is where the forum is going.

One can learn most when objects are being discussed. It's nice to hear when something is original but since there's still so much to learn I prefer when objects are actually discussed, what details to pay attention to, which signs to look for, where specific items were used etc. That's what, in my eyes, this forum was meant for.
Anyway, items posted by me and not being commented doesn't take away the joy and pleasure I get from collecting and researching history

The Dutch police used the 10-22 until the early 80's. All of them had the black grips.

Marcel: I've always referred to this Astra 400 as my "Pimp Special"! The pistol was apparently disassembled and the frame case colored(estimated cost around $500). THe small parts were plated with gold and the rested of the parts were expertly rust blued. Additionally the bolt and trigger were engine turned. It wouldn't suprise me if the former owner(who I don't know) at that time put over $1,000 into a pistol worth about $300 in good original condition.
I keep it around as a conversation piece.

I have a couple of the late use imported examples. Whoever imported them apparently used large letters and a sledge hammer to mark them seriously defacing the pistols. I've kept them as shooters and as a source for parts.

Definitely a nice pistol and I can imagine it's a piece for many conversations. It wouldn't fit into my collection though if I'm honest. But it's for sure unique

Interesting to hear the Dutch police used these as well. Untill the late eighties even. Sign of a quality pistol I guess when it's used for so many decades.

More a sign of not needing a better pistol at that time and not wanting to spend a lot of money in buying a new pistol for the whole dutch police force.
