        That isn't a screw. It's the magazine catch lock, and just happens to look like a screw because it was slotted. The early locks had a dimple rather than a slot. Most people take it to be a screw and bugger it up trying to unscrew it.

        As to the grips, nothing is like seeing then in person, but I don't like what I see. The backs look too fresh, and I don't like the milling marks in the back. Attached are a couple of pictures of an original set of 1911 grips. There is still a trace of saw marks in the back of the grips, plus the normal aging from oil and such running under the grips.

          i see exactly what you mean, thank you for pointing me to these details. i took off the 1911 (left) grip that was on my pistol and the difference is obvious. also, i don't see the "seating" for the screws in the holes, looks like they've been drilled straight through. i'll get in touch with the seller and ask for more pictures. here is what my grip and handle look like,
