    Yard Sale PPK buy

    Hello forum...

    I found this yard saling on Friday 8/26.

    The people having the sale did not have anything, but a guy overheard me asking said he has his uncles bringback PPK and lived nearby.

    I followed him to his home... and ended up paying $700 for it. I think it's an okay deal.. but the grip does have a crack. The holster is not marked anywhere. I assume the holster might be commercial?

    an hour later, I found the stein at an estate sale for $125.

            Based on the pics of the pistol, mag and damage to the grip it appears to be a late commercial and as you said an "OK deal". Cannot tell any more without serial number.

              It appears to be late war with the commercial Eagle over N mark. PPK grips typcally crack in that location generally due to the grip screw being overtightened.

                      Be sure to take a look at the inside of the holster, down in the "toe" portion and in the mag pouch; I have seen a number of vet bring-back holsters where the vet folded up the "Capture Papers" and stuffed them into the toe of the holster (or, occasionally, in the mag pouch) as a way to post-war preserve what the vet considered to be essential paperwork. Who knows, you might find a little bonus stuffed inside your holster.

                            Great finds! August D. Dutoi ASN 35894609 was born in 1910 and resided in St. Joseph County, Indiana. He was a white , married US citizen employed as a shipping/receiving clerk when he was enlisted/drafted into the army on 9/13/43.

                              thanks for the info.

                              He was "older" than most to be drafted? I think I saw online he passed away in 1998.
