Greetings,
I like your cyq!! It's been captured by the Russians and dipped before storage. Yours was one of the first ones produced at Spreewerk. They started production at number 1 with no suffix. The metal is well finished on the early ones. Here's a link below to one of my early ones on the P38 website. BTW, you can clean off the dip. ...
congrats!!

Johnny,
Just curious as to what value you all put on that rig? The one I posted the link too has a complete set of capture papers and came back with a softshell holster and 2 e/88 mags. I gave between 1000.00 and 1100.00 for it. A early, ns rig sold on GB within the last week for 1400.00. In ref to the one in this thread, I was offered a Russian captured dip , ns, without the "X" mark for 800.00 recently and passed aas in Ky that's about 200.00 too much.
thanks!!

This was about two years ago, and a son-in-law had brought it by the shop, but couldn't stay until I had time to get there. He later brought it back when I could be there, and had no idea when I ask about capture papers. It was nice enough at that time that I put a $1250/1500 value on it, and would gladly give $1500 for it today.

There's several ways that are mentioned on the P38 website. I use a ultrasonic cleaner. However, a safer way is to use isopropyl alcohol. Take the mag and rub it down using a rag or wash cloth that's got alcohol on it and that will remove the dip. I use cotton q-tip applicators to get into the corners. The amount of time and effort to remove will depend on the thickness of the dip. I always start with the mag to refine my process before I start on the pistol. This process doesn't remove the wartime finish that's underneath.
good luck!!
