    P38 cyq, original blued?

    Hello gents,

I would appreciate your opinions about this Pistol .38 made by Spreewerke.
What do you think, refinished, original blued?

    Regards and thanks in advance.

From the pictures I can say that this gun was definitely reblued. The Russian capture X on the slide is also an evidence that the gun was reblued, because all Russian captured P38 were reblued postwar for a better storage.

Since the "final polish" on an original finish Spreewerke P38 usually looks like it was done with a rough file; I'd say your example is definitely re-blued.

Jim, that´s a very early Spreewerk P38 and they were high polish, look here:

I'm not a collector of WW2 guns at all, but this pistol is absolutely astonishing!

                    Nice:
That certainly isn't a typical Spreewerke example!!
Just shows there are exceptions to every rule.

Not every Russian capture was reblued, and the finish looks original, but I don't see any signs of holster wear. Very tough call but definitely a P38 to be proud of either way.

                              My opinion:
Note that the serial number of your example pre-dates the example above that the owner maintains is original. I'd suggest you contact him and perhaps he can provide additional information.
The Spreewerke P38 examples I've seen over they years were very rough.
