You may be correct. Here is a pic of an early cocking handle off of a 1943 Maget gun serial number 53XX b also a pic of its front site.
I have also seen a transitional cocking handle that has the later verticle grip but the rest is off a slab sided cocking handle with WaA stamps on every part.

When you find a better bolt, do not take it apart . I took mine apart two years ago: And I'm still trying to put it back together.
