    It is removed by depressing the magazine catch from the left side, and turning the mag catch lock 1/4 turn clockwise and it pops out.

      Learned it the hard way in the 90's smithing my series 70 .45 gouged the frame a bit...

        Personally, if I was going to be buying my first 1911 A1, I'd be getting a Colt. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the RR but, if you buy an RR first, your really going to want a Colt and that for me would be a priority over an RR.

          This is what it looks like. The original only had a dimple in the middle, as it was not suppose to be removed by the troops in the field. The second style still had the dimple, but also was slotted. The final version had the slot.
