The serial number would only appear on the frame and never the slide, the trick with GI .45's is to get real good at reading proof and inspectors marks and serial number ranges also need to be looked up. For example its a common practice for GI armorers to simply toss in mixed slides, frames etc into a vat of cleaning solution and then just put whatever with whatever and voila- you have an Ithaca Frame with a US&S slide and so on. I had an Ithaca frame with a Remington Rand slide on it. This one seems okay to me but I am way out of practice with military 1911's.

I agree with the above. Someone on this forum has an updated list of serial no. ranges by manufacturer and can advise if this is in the Remington range.

I have no expertise regarding authenticity, but the estand price is pretty good, the way these seem to be skyrocketing.

I bid about the same on a very similar gun last month at Rock Island. The gun ended up selling for $1800 (plus 20% "fee").

                  Edit:

FJA inspected, HS Marked barrel, serrated mainspring housing, phosphate finish, and "small NY marked slide" are all correct according to my book. The book also shows the serial in the range for 1944 Remington Rand.

It is a Remington Rand built in October of 1944, and has correct FJA and crossed cannons acceptance mark. Barrel is a correct High Standard, and grips are correct Keyes grips.

Normally the slide and receiver are a very close match in color. May just be the photographs, but the slide appears to be a few shades darker than the receiver. Can't tell from the photograph, but the P proof on the slide and receiver should exactly match.

                      Johnny,

Does the barrel look Du-Lite blued to you? It finish looks thick to me, but might be my old eyes.

                      Thanks

I can't tell if the barrel is just heavily coated with oil/grease or what. Barrel lug appears correct color. Really need to see a good photo of top of chamber area.

The only thing I can see wrong with it is the Bubba'd Mag release securing screw Apart from that it looks OK
                          Regards Toby.

Most people think it is a screw and try to unscrew it. It is actually the magazine catch lock, and just happens to have a slot to aid it's removal. The first mag catch locks did not have the slot, but as soon as the slot was added Bubba went to work.

It is removed by depressing the magazine catch from the left side, and turning the mag catch lock 1/4 turn clockwise and it pops out.

Damb...I missed it. Screaming deal, I hope who ever bought it flakes out because I am next on the list for it.
