    K98 Low Turret Sniper

I got this K98 Low Turret sniper rifle without scope some time ago from Estand. Barrel is 1943 dated and it is Mauser made sniper judging from receiver proof after the serial number. Some time later I got a 6 power scope for it with low turret fittings in a trade. Scope mount numbers of course don't match the rifle, but it fits the rifle and I completed a set with a rare scope. Rifle numbers match.

very nice you were able to piece this back together with some time.
could you provide another photo ,showing the full side view of the weapon ?
I have yet to find a real sniper for my collection.
thank you for showing us . jeff

                      Rings

Could you be more specific, why you don't like those rings? Can you show other to compare?

                      Regards, Jack

                        Rings

Look it's an low turret, so the serial number must be in the last ring, also the locker screw of the last ring is not too much worked of and looks brand new. Please look at this 2 photos, you will understand better, my english is not the best.

                          rings

Thanks for your photos. Is your scope also marked on the front ring or base. I saw them without numbers on the rear base in books. Of course books have mistakes, so I am not 100% sure right now. Are you sure 100% that a lack of the number in the rear is disqualifying? What is significance of that number? Is it rifle serial or some number used during assembly in a factory?
As far as lack of wear on screws. Is anything without wear bad?

Well I like the rifle, the bolt is original and not reworked in any way, the rest of the k98 is matching?, about the WaA135 near the serial number seems good as the one in the rear mount plus the star, but I can't say 100% as today there are good tools that fakes that WaA135, look at the photo, thats mine k98 stamped with an fake WaA135.

Sure 100% not, all is possible but normally the low turret mount are better produced, but I could be wrong, anyway I don't like the locker screw, please compare with my previous photo.

For conclusion if the k98 is 100% matching and the mounts are good, don't doubt purchase it. After you could find another scope with original rings that will fit on the rifle.

the raduis tension lever retaining nut and tension lever stop screw instead of a roll pin is for LT is correct. not sure if they droped the tension lever screw before they discontinued its use. the Zeiss scope was sold on ebay in dec 2010 had commercial claw mounts and black paint. now its cleaned up reblued and a + added. scope is not rare just a commercial scope filling the hole of a later war used scope some 70,000+ serials later. rifle its self is very solid. on the i (I) block rifles rifle serial was moved to front ring not rim. serial of rifle should be on rear ring flat area were it slinds on rear turret base.

                              later
