Of course, and up to the seller what he/she wants to sell for. The market value is somewhere in the middle.

No, you don't have to pay a yearly fee if you are just the owner or purchaser of a class 3 firearm. You do have to pay a transfer fee which is $200 I believe though.

The fee you are thinking about is for a class 3 dealers' license. This is $600 for 2 years I believe right now. You only need this if you plan on being a class 3
          dealer.

I'm not 100% sure on all these fees, so don't quote me on them. If you would like a class 3 license then the best bet is to contact your local ATF office. If you wish to purchase a class 3 firearms, then simply contact any class 3 dealer that you know.

I can't speak for shootable Stg44's but a deactivated one here in the UK is currently about £1400 - £1800. I bought one about a year ago for a £1000 so you can see how quickly the prices are going up..crazy really!

Question for you chaps in Denmark and Sweden...are spare parts still easy to find in your countries?

The state laws vary. In some states, you must be a class 3 dealer to own a full auto weapon. In Iowa and Illinois, no one can own a full auto weapon unless they are a class 3 dealer, which requires a yearly licsence.

The reason I asked was I was told by a gun dealer, that you need a licensee for class 3 guns. He just didn't say that it just applied to Illinois and Iowa. Not sayng those are the only states it applies to.

Yes, you do need a class 3 liscence in those states where it is legal. In some states one needs to be a class 2 weapons dealer and "private" ownership is not possible. One can apply for a class 3 weapons dealers liscnence, but these are limited. Personally, being someone who has alot of semi-autos, the hassle of a full auto weapon detracts from the possiblity of ownership.

Hey Peter if you want to sell it to me for 2G's I promise it would never leave my hands and be in a good home. I think guns and helmets fascinate me the most in collecting. Still haven't picked up a gun yet though. I would love to see some pics.

Well, if you're one of Moqtada Al Sadr's boys you probably got it for free...

The prices of full auto weapons in the US are high because since 1968 no more full auto weapons can be registered in order to be legally owned by a priviate citizen for a one time fee of $200, (and once registered can be transferred to others for the $200 fee paid each transfer). The citizen does not need a Federal firearms license to own one that is registered in their name and the state they live in allows private ownership of it. Current prices for the three models in the US, the early 42, 43, and finally the 44, which are all generally or basically the same, are running from about $8,000 and up to $12,000 depending on condition, matching, rewatt etc. I would say on the bottom end would be one in fair to good condition, non matching and reconverted from a dewatt. Top end is excellent plus, all matching and original auto. Add a little more for an early one and a few thousand extra for one having a scope mount. You might run accross one in these price ranges for slightly less from someone who is not up on the prices. Judging from ads I've seen, they are increasing in price about 10% plus each year. So if you can, you better buy one now if find one and can afford it. Ray

Yeah, please explain what kind of liscens you had for a fully auto stg44, its hard enough to get liscens for a de-activaded k98.

Where else but the good ol' USA? In Mike Moore's Bowling for Columbine, there was this blind guy who achieved his firearms' licence using an AK47 (not to threaten anyone of course ) and there was this short scene of someone firing an MG-42 (or maybe it was an FN MAG) at a shooting club. (Jeez!) That's more than I can say for Australia, which has, AFAIK, one of the most tight-ar$* firearms' laws in the world. At least firearms aren't banned outright, like in Singapore (my country of birth). Which beats me as to how a friend of mine got an StG44 into Oz, for a military fair (whith some LSSAH reenactors). Inert, I think.
If you're going to acquire 7.92X33mm kurz rounds for it, inert or otherwise? Won't that be a tough job? Besides the fact that you need a sparate licence, that 7.92mm kurz ammo is VERY, super, rare. And as to how you got the StG44 fixed to semi-suto, did you have the selector welded into semi-auto, mode?
                                Cheers,
