What should I look for in an MG42?
I'm ready to buy a live one and need advice on the quality of various manufacturers, years of production, etc. Are there any wartime manufacturers to stay away from, are any more desirable than others? Any more prone to damage/catastrophic failure? Aside from the usual questions about general condition and any structural damage which would adversely affect its function, are there any specific questions i should be asking/things for which I should be looking out?
Please, keep in mind, this is not going to be merely a "safe-queen" or a display piece. It will see quite a bit of use on the range, though I'll probably use an MG3 conversion so I can use some better quality 308 ammo than the old surplus Turkish usually available at gunshows.
Any additional advice or info on you might be able to provide on the MG42 would also be appreciated.
Thanks!
