Use of MG08 in WWII

    Interesting that the inter-war 08 in the pit, pictured by itself, has the feet of the tripod staked down with what appear to be tent spikes or something similar. Interesting variation of the tripod with the nickle plated folding carry handles on the end of the trail, various other nickle plated parts, the fine traverse, 08/15 drum bracket, etc, etc.

        Top of sled mount

        On the above post ontop of the side sled mount side panels are small brackets/slots of some description. Any ideas please - some form of shield mounting? Not seen before.
