Yes, However only the BD 44 was approved for import. 300 came and they were all sold. I doubt that we will see any other weapons make it to the USA.

Agreed, if you have $17k to plop down for one. I sold a couple of caps and financed the PTR. Having owned a tranferrable MP38, I can honestly say I much prefer the semi auto version for no other reason than ease of transport. I got $11k for the 38 about six years ago when I sold it. If the owner offered to swap me dead even for the PTR, I'd decline the offer (unless I wanted to flip it).

The market for FAs has been really soft. The value of the PTR went up by 20% within a week of the Shotgun News article. A friend had bought two. I wish that I had the money to have bought a half dozen.

I love my PTR44. Mine was one of the first ones released and working right out of the box - with good mags. It has kicked my 1988 Polytech AKS to the curb as my Safe Queen and has it's own spot with no rifles on either side of it. My ACR and SCAR aren't even allowed to touch her. It you can get one then do it. Cassidy is 100% correct in everything he has said in this thread about these rifles. I have followed: the BD44, MP44c, PTR44 (whatever you want to call it) saga for 3 years now and, despite the problems they had and the eventually high price per unit, to me it was well worth the wait.

Rifle ranges I go to almost stop altogether for a period of time when I take it out as people want to see how well it shoots and functions. I could sell rental on this rifle. In the US, there are likely fewer PTR44s than there are original MP44 rifles (???) and if no more BD44/PTR44s ever come in, they will be worth even more $$$ over time. Granted, I would LOVE to own an original MP44, but I just don't have $15K-$20K to spend for a FA one. Buying one of the SA original MP44s is just not worth the $6K-$8K+ guys have been asking for them - and, moreover, my SA MP44 repro. is brand new...

Here's some pics of "Heidi" for those of you who want to peak at her...

After renting a FA at one event I have lusted after an STG44 ever since. The PTR fills that need since FA is not an option in California.
I quite like my PTR44, although have been having recent issues with the stock screws coming loose.

The silly fin on the grip makes it legal in CA (with pre-CA ban original mags).

For even more fun here it is with a Contour HD video camera mounted in place of a ZF4 - gun cam...

                    Wow

California is is crazier than I thought. That fin grip is like putting a mustache on the Mona Lisa.

                    Move to Pennsylvania dude!

Yeah, the fin is silly, but it is a workaround that allows rifles that would normally be illegal to magically become legal. This and other workarounds are making a mockery of CA's Assault Weapon laws with tens of thousands of AR and AK pattern rifles being imported into CA on a regular basis and will at some point lead to the overturning of those silly laws. In addition to the PTR44, I have semi auto MG42 (M53), AKs (including a Draco pistol) and an AR, DP28, SG43 and a DShK in .50 BMG all because of workarounds to CA laws.

The Supreme Court Heller and MacDonald decisions are allowing California gun owners to mount constitutional legal challenges to many of CA's gun laws. Many lawsuits have been filed and we are working hard to make CA a shall issue CCW state, eliminate the "Safe" gun roster and kill CA's AW and high cap mag laws.

I am 45 minutes from the Pacific Ocean and three hours from the Sierra Nevada mountains (skiing,, backpacking etc.. PA is nice but I like mountains. If I were to move out of CA (extremely unlikely) it would be Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming or Colorado

                        Support the NRA

Well, Keep up the good fight against the communist. I will let the NRA HQ know that CA needs to be their main effort and to send lawyers, guns and money.

This must have all happened after Ronnie!

NRA is very aware and is doing much in CA. A CRPA (California Rifle and Pistol Association) and NRA suit stopped implementation of a handgun importation (by mail) ban. Law was declared unconstitutionally vague. There two more two lawsuits waiting in the wings to challenges the law if the NRA suit failed.

calgunsfoundation.org has suits in progress for Shall Issue CCW, elimination of the handgun roster and others

Calguns Foundation is an outgrowth of Calguns.net which is turning into a model for grassroots organization against anti-gun laws. If you live in one of the more restrictive states (NJ, MD, NY, MA, HI) please stop by Calguns.net to get an idea of what can be done from a grassroots level.

                          CA's AW ban started 1/1/2000
