Hi,
Thanks for the information, I thought the barrel was a WW2 issue. I know an original ww1 barrel, especially one this early will be almost impossible to find. I'm hoping the rest of this 1911 appears to be as it should.

Mike,
That is the small G variation used in the Colt 1911A1 from serial number 712350 until approximately 790000. A hard barrel to find, but it looks like it has been ground down in the chamber area, showing up as bright metal on either side of the G and around the front of the chamber on the top.
This is the correct period barrel for your 1911, with the P for Proof and the H for Frank Hosmer who did the final inspection.
