    8mm Ammo

    Hi Steve,

Your ammo is German Third Reich Ammo made in 1939.

Here is the info about it as I understand it.

First line: Patronen s.S means heavy pointed 7.92mm ball ammo.

Second line: P635 is the maker (assembled the bullet components) who was in Austria. 41 is a lot number. 39 was the year the ammo was made.

Third line: Info about the powder (flake size in parentheses), Mog is location of the powder manufacturer, 19 is the lot number and 39 is the year the powder was made.

Fourth line; Patrh is info about who made the cartidge (casing), lot number (46) and date of manufacture (39). Gefch is info about the bullet, who made it (same manufacturer that assembled the components), lot number (18) and date (39).

Last line is info about the primer, who made it (D.W.M.) lot number (556) and date of manufacture (39).

If anyone finds flaws in this data or has other input I would appreciate hearing about it. I have been struggling to learn what all the info on the labels means.

    Regards, Leon

      Wow !! Great info.
Thanks Leon. Thats really good news because I bought 100 rounds of these , to make up a MG34 machine gun belt.
      Cheers,
      Steve

Here is a partial box. I shot one of these through my Dad's Mauser when I was a young teen. We shot at an old farmers disk used to work the fields. It rolled me over on my back and put a nice hole clean through the disk.

No MP is Maschinen Pistole, where as the 1919 would be a MG or Maschinen Gehwer. 1919 ammo would be 7.62x63.

                Hey Manny,
Are you sure about this? I had a MG 42 and 34 and had to make a special blank firing barrel to use them for movie work and reenacting. I copied the Germans(of course) and cut the barrel 8 inches in front of the chamber then bored it out and welded in a tube which I turned on a lathe to make gas trap rings and effectivly made the barrel into one giant blank fire device.

the cartridges in picture #6 are post-war blank cartridges(with wooden bullet,I suppose, while I'm not as sure ass their caliber...is the box opened Bob?) !These cartridges(but in 8mm cal and for K98k only) were often use in MG ammo belts to avoid continuous fire,in order to prevent the gunner from waisting a zillion rounds in the heat of the engagement. There were instances of MG firing MG blanks(more powerful and allowing for blasts) overhead attacking German troops in order to make allied soldiers keep their heads down thinking they were fired at with live ammo.....clever lads indeed those Kraut MGunners!
Photos#1,2 and 3 show yellow tracers with brass case made by RWS(P151),Theodor Bergmann(cdo) and an unidentified ammunition manufacturer.
Photo #4 shows (S.s./schwere Spitze) rifle ammo made by DWM(P131) and HASAG(P181) and photo #5 shows pistol ammunition made by Waffenwerke Brunn!I haven't been circumstantial here because I've got to run but I nevertheless wanted to help you!If you need me to "translate"a whole label just let me know and I'll do that!
                Talk to you later

                  Hello
Would you be able to post some photos of the joinery of the wooden box, some view from the side and the bottom?
                  Danke

Is this seriously documented? If you've ever been shot at you will understand when I say that it's easy to differentiate between blank fire and effective live fire. Its doubtful how effective that technique would be IMO.

Beyond that - which is absolutely a valid point.

Please show me the blank that will cycle the bolt on either an MG34 or 42 without a blank firing attachment fitted - not disputing, just want to see it.
