    My turn!!!

Here is my old MP40 by MGC68! I got this last year in a trade with a collector/reenactor. I believe he had painted the gun during it's career. The pouches are "supposedly" made by MGC also. I have them stuffed with Sten magazines (much cheaper than MP40 mags!). I like it - it is the second MP40 by MGC that I have had, and I think they are very good replicas. Cheers and Happy New Year to all!

Nice one Jim. your sling looks somewhat different, is it the sling which came with the MP or did you replace it with a genuine MP40 sling like I did? I found the Japanese sling looked acceptable but was difficult to adjust and did not sit well slung over the shoulder or on a mannequin.

              Hi Will,
Thank you for your reply, I will get some photo of my MGC68 MP40 and I will also show you where is the serial number look like.
              Cheers
              Mike

Unfortunately, there are no other markings stamped into it besides the word JAPAN on the underside of the trigger guard and of course the MP40 mgc68 on the upper rear of the receiver area.

Possibly there is a difference in construction between our examples? My barrel differs from the body in that it is made of a solid, hard, brittle-looking cast alloy that I suspect would not take kindly to being struck hard enough to accept a number stamp without cracking. I know because I refinished it by filing off the rough areas so typical of the casting process. If you read the the MGC site the third paragraph under "The construction" it specifies what the parts are made of.

Does this sound familiar Mike? If you have a stamped barrel I am curious as to what kind of material is it made of. Maybe our MP40's differ in being earlier vs. later examples.

Ronnie, I'm not sure if you can even buy a replica of this quality anymore from Japan, as per the above site. (See the opening pagraphs)

You might find these two sites of interest however.

                MP40 Sling

                Will:
The sling was on the gun when I got it. It is a repro of some sort. It works. By the way, my Mp40 and magazine are straight - the close view with my zoom lens distorts the picture somewhat, making things look bowed. My error.

                  number

My mgc68 mp40 has a number stamped into the side of the barrel just ahead of the barrel nut. I wonder did they stamp all those stamped with the same number(No3651) or were they all different numbers?. My barrel you can see down it but there is a hardened steel insert that was put there when they cast the barrel you can't remove it.

Another MGC68. 68 Stands for 1968, the first year MGC started making these. I believe the last were in the late 70's and yes, there were slight differences in construction over the years.

BTW. Original MP40 mags will not fit the MGC68, they are too big. However, the Belgium machine gun "Vigneron" used almost identical mags to the MP40 but slightly undersized and they do fit, just. They can be picked up quite cheaply in europe, not sure about the States though.

I might have one original MGC68 mag going spare. Drop me a line if you need one.

MGC also made a nice Thompson SMG.

Before you pay your hard earned cash for a replica that has to

I know many have converted these to plug fire and remeoved the solid steel plug thing and replaced it with the plug fire insert would anyone have one of the non plug fire inserts that was in the breech still kicking around? the one that I had has gone missing over the years
