    My first Luger

Picked this rig up from a friend yesterday. A 1940 Mauser with non-matching but 1940 mag, brown plastic grips, correct tool and beautiful 1940 dated holster.

Fantastic! I would replace the grips for real wood ones...

These grips are unique and quite hard to come by. Putting wood grips on this would be a terrible downgrade IMO. The rarity of these grips was the main reason I bought this pistol.

Are those period originals?? The ones I have seen are usually black on the so called Black widow. Is a beautiful gun ..blue is over 95% .

fdodge, 42 code 1940's are not especially rare but with the bakelite grips, which are correct, it is indeed a rare variation. Congratulations.

Luis, yes they are period original grips.
GWA, thanks. While I could not really afford a "rare" luger, I wanted a representative example of an early war piece, in condition and with something special. This one does it for me.
Now I'm looking for a 1940 spare mag. Anybody got one?
