    Yard sale find 11/14

    Hello forum...

I bought these items at a yard sale today.

They said they had some old rifles in a shed.

Not sure why they would put Grandpa's collection in the shed... but... I bought the four guns.

They wanted $400 for the lot... so I went for it.

Two look like Civil War rifles. One is dated 1835, the other 1864. An old double barrel shot gun... and a WWII Japanese Arisaka.

I believe the Arisaka is a Type 38. Heavy as heck for such a small gun. Bolt is fussy, and the mum is gone. Also... a split in the stock in addition to the typical two piece butt.

Any idea as to a value on the Civil War era rifles? I heard old shot guns are fairly worthless.

    Thanks for the help... Robert

this is auction house link, I found the Whitney musket there, pos 444:

                        444. WHITNEY MODEL 1808 CONTRACT MUSKET. No SN. .69 cal. 42" barrel. Late-type with "N.HAVEN." marking in a scroll in front of the hammer. "LS" inspector mark on left side of stock. Tiny "US" stamp also on left side of stock, but near butt. Possibly original flintlock, as it has the deep X condemned mark on top of the barrel. CONDITION: Gray patina overall, with spotty rust stains and light pitting. The stock is very good, with some deterioration at the buttplate, which has moderate to heavy pitting. The bore is poor. The action is good. 4-43556 FS152 ($1,000-2,000)

You should be able to find springfield musket there too....

                        great find !!!!

                          Thanks for the help...

It's a neat looking "wall hanger."

It's amazing how some people store items. These were stacked like chords of wood on top of each other.

I couldn't fit the long rifles in my trunk... and had to place them in the back seat.

                              It's a bad crack too.

Anyone heard of a shot gun maker by the name of: "Williams?"

                              thanks for the help... Robert
