Jay,

You did fine at that price even excluding the holster. Your mag is a rather scarce variety that was made by jvd whose waffenamt number was 706 and also inspected by Spreewerk since it has an E/88 stamp on the spine. I have not seen many of those mags in 20+ years.

As I mentioned in my first post, it is definitely not a WWII P.38 holster. I don't recognize it as any WWII holster so I suspect it is post war. I was hoping that someone else with more experience with the post war holsters would chime in.

Hi,

You did fine with your P38. As Leon said above, a late war, rough finish, Spreewerke pistol ("cyq" was the manufacturer's code, E/88 was the Army inspector code).

The holster is a post war variation as far as I know. Never saw an authentic wartime holster like this one.

So what is the story - did the veteran represent this P.38 to you as being one that he brought back from WWII as a souvenir?

Again, it sounds like you did ok on the purchase price, but I am curious as to what sort of representations, if any, the veteran made to you at the time of purchase.

That's why the old saying: buy the item not the story. At least he got the pistol for a good price and not one of those pistols which "was taken from the dead body of a German officer lying upon a Tiger tank" - which, of course, would make the price higher.

That´s correct. As far as I know, this is a German post wars holster for the Spanish Star B pistol which was used as a police pistol in West Germany.

This holster model was often modified by fakers here in Europe and many new collectors bought them on ebay...
