I believe that is a partial HZa marking which means it was reworked during the Weimar period. I have a similar pistol and my markings are more clear.

Leon, Since this is clearly a Nazi Eagle perhaps it was reworked just after Weimar?

Unusual marks on a WW1 pistol..I have not encountered many of these and Leon, thanks for the link to your photo's!

I guess if I had more time I would go to my books and research this further.
