    Discussion of eStand Luger.

I have a slight problem with the description of the Luger for sale at:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=1#post3088135

The sellers statement that "All parts were not manufactured at the same factory their for (sic) they will differ" just isn't factual. Luger collectors will tell you that the safety bar is questionable, because the number "1" has a lower serif, but the rest of the 1's on the Luger do not, plus the safety bar has a "4" that is open topped , and all the other 4's are not. Those parts should ALL be matching, if the Luger is being described as having "full 100% matching numbers".

What is the likelihood that if parts were made at different factories, there would be people whose jobs would consist of separating the numbered parts and finding the correct number for each Luger being assembled, so that matching numbered firearms could be produced? I daresay it would be next to impossible.

It's a nice Luger that's up for sale, and I'm sure someone will be lucky to have it.

It's a small point, but it makes a difference in the authenticity of the piece, for the potential buyer.

    Bob.

    Luger

    Bobcam:
I think you are right ,the bottom of the one on the safety does look bogus. All the luger's I have had, those font's were identical, no matter where they were located. I didn't know that Luger part's were mfgd at differant places!!!
Not only are they differant, they are not really index'd very well.

Bob, I agree. If one is to pay a premium for a matching Luger. They should get just that! I posted a comment on sale thread since it is at the top... will add it here as well for the sake of this discussion:

I believe Bob could be correct! At first I didn't notice it myself, but I see what you mean now, good eye Bob. The safety lever does not appear to be original to the gun. I in no way believe Bob's comment tarnished your sale, the buyer has every right to know what they are buying.

I too think it should be discussed for more opinions, IMO I don't believe the safety lever is original to the gun. But the discussion will shed more light on this.

      Best regards,
      Rylan

It would depend on the time of year. It maybe in a transition between fonts. I have a matching byf 41 which has all lower serif numbers.

In Jan Stills "Third Reich Lugers" on page 85 it shows a byf 41 # 4801 which has the same type of lower serif "1' as the pistol you are asking about. This pistol also has the trigger bar with a lower serif "1" which is different from the frame and other parts. I do not see this as being a non matching gun. If all other parts match then chances are this is a good luger.

I looked at the Luger on page 85 of TRL, and I see what you mean. I don't consider the Luger that the seller posted to be "not good"....I think it's fine, and would be a worthwhile addition to someone's collection, but I've also checked with other knowledgeable Luger collectors who are also of the opinion that the safety bar is suspect. It was not the fact that the number 1 has a lower serif, it's that the safety bar, has BOTH numerals that are different.

It's just my opinion, and a few others, that this Luger is in fact, NOT all-matching, but discussions such as this will supply the potential buyer with as much information as possible, and will enable that person to make a better informed decision.

          Bob.

EDIT: There is a discussion on Luger Forum concerning the matter of differing Mauser fonts. If more information or other opinions become available, either Pro or Con, I'll post those, as well.....

Firstly I will take back my comment regarding the different styles of number between factory's clearly not an valued reason which I hastily reply with getting confused with the K98 for example and it's sub contract parts. Well it's an interesting one in hand the pistol appears right going on what Jerry posted above "transition between fonts" could possibly be the answer?

I must point out Lugers are not my strong point or collecting area had this one a few years now & will welcome more views.

Some more pictures, their are in fact 3 parts that are numbered in this same style.

A few more pictures to help.

Having just taken off the grips these are in the same "questionable" style never had them off before & clearly fussed to the frame..

This gun is de- activated .This to me is a bigger problem than the font on the saftey bar not matching. It lost any value when it stopped working. No offense to my European comrades, only their governments.
