In addition to that, whay would someone take the trouble to change it when the original way of cocking the gun with a finger hole in the bolt works so well? Odd, but very very cool.

I regularly shoot a friends M3 and for having such crude sights it is surprisingly accurate.

hi this is an m3 not an m3a1 so this one dont hawe the finger hole bolt but the lever one the side . the ejection port is smaller so you cant use the hole. i do belive the hole on the lover proves it was an m3 and it had an problem with the levers breaking so it s my guess why it is changed. sisu

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

          Nice grease gun.

I have never seen that modification, actually. The slot is vert straight and the cocking handle appears at a right angle. Getting that slot perfectly straight like that would be necessary for the weapon to cycle properly in that narrow slot.
Seems to me, not a "field modification". This is probably done during the war, but this would be a task for a machinist or ordnance dept (?)...
I have not seen this in the reference books either...
Thanks for showing. Interesting piece, no doubt !!!

              Very interesting M3 Grease Gun!
It's amazing that it survived for so long in not so good conditions!

                M3 Grease-gun

Hi and Thanks a lot for your interesting comments !
NO, I can't shoot it "over here" - the official shooting stands don't allow
automatic weapons in this .45 caliber.
It would be highly illegal to fire it in private somewhere in the landscape !

It survived in this condition as it was heavily greased and wrapped in a gunnysack - I had to clean it with gasoline and I only oiled it afterwards....

I'm glad to hear that you like it, especially this variation of the loading system.

                Greetings from Luxembourg,

Interesting how it's modified with a bolt handle.

Looks good though. Thanks for sharing.
