    Interesting Machine Gun! HELP!

    Hi Guys,

    My friend found this gun about a weeks ago. He found it in an old house in Hungary after he cleaned it.

    The problem is: nobody know exactly what type of this gun.

    We think this is a first war machine gun (maybe Italy).

    If anybody know more information please help us!

    Picture and all opinion welcome

            The bayonet looks like Mannlicher Carcano M91 folding cavalry type, but the gun more like rework, nót standard rifle or MP,best regards,Andy

                    mod 1918-30 has features you describe, mod 1918 is as pictured above.

                      My reference is Nelson, World's Submachineguns, V.1; it shows M1918 as top mag and no loop. Admittedly it may be out of date or in error; no rference to M1918-30 in it. Can you cite reference for your ID?

                        The gun pictured above appears to be the following, as described in the above link - and to be a Beretta 1918/30:

                        "Beretta Automatic Carabine
                        Cal. 9mm Parabellum (9x19mm)
                        Compared with the preceding Mod. 1918, of which it is a variant, this arm presents some modifications to the firing system and to the rear sight.
                        It was adopted by some Police units and by the Italian Forestry Service."

                        It matches the picture above this description.

                        It does not appear to match the semi auto version (Beretta Semiautomatic Carabine
                        Cal. 9mm Glisenti) as pictured, as it is missing some sort of control (safety?) pictured on the right side of the receiver, above the trigger assembly.

                        Edit: Actually, it could be the semi auto model - too hard to tell in the rusted condition sans stock.

                            Why would the forestry service need an automatic carbine? Particularly viscious
                            squirrells perhaps?
