I was wondering regarding left handed shooters and service in any of the branches of the Wehrmacht? That If there are no left hand Mauser K98s, would it also be true to imply that there were no left handed persons allowed to join the Wehrmacht? Any proof of this? Thanks!

They would have been made to shoot right handed.

Before there were film negatives, photos were made on glass plates coated with a light sensitive emulsion. The pictures came out reversed, and probably the most famous photograph with the reversed image is that of Billy the Kid. It showed his pistol on the left side, leading early historians to assume that he was left handed. In 1958 there was a movie entitled "The Left Handed Gun" about Billy the Kid. The thing they didn't notice was that the 1873 Winchester he is holding also appears to be a left hand model.
A negative will print just a well from one side as the other, and someone not familiar with rifles could not tell the difference if they got the negative flipped.

Absolutely no left handed 98k rifles. German soldiers were taught to be right handed both for uniformity and because all equipment and weapons were set up that way. (you will not find an ambidexterous P.38 or P.08 either) And as far as a "limited run" of rifles, no again. Imagine the nightmare of changing heavy machinery, disrupting production lines, etc. and for what? Post war gunsmith modified examples of sporterized rifles do exist, but thats it.

German soldiers where forced to use their right hand, there is no such thing as an army issue left hand k98k.
I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

                  I figured that.
I have many friends that shoot left and do the reach-around on a bolt rifle.
I only shoot LH bolt rifles myself as I refuse to do a reach-around. I'm not that kind of guy!

                    Left

I can't believe this thread continues....

Back in the 1960's Ohio Troopers ALL had to learn to shoot right handed. ALL wore the holster on the right hip. Ever seen a left handed Garand ? How about a left handed carbine ? Luger ? P-38 ?

                        Ya. Me too.....

Does the modern military cater to lefties? Without a bolt, I'll bet it doesn't matter. I've never cared about the brass flying across my face.
