Thanks
So the marks are correct for the 1943 colt USGI pistols? thanks for the help. I would buy the book but I am not a collector of these, I had a trade and was told on another forum that the gun looked all original. The mag was marked R and this seems to be correct for a 1943 pistol colt from a couple of sites I found. Just trying to make sure I did a good trade. Thanks again.

Did you compare the frame serial number to a list of Colt serial numbers?
Often times you will find a Colt slide on a Remington Rand frame or vice versa. If you do not have a list of serial numbers PM the serial number, you can X out the last three if you want, and I will look it up for you.
The R only marked on the top lip of the magazine is for Risdon Mfg, they were a magazine contractor during the war. Their magazines can be found in any of the 1911A1s. C-R on the bottom of the lip indicates a magazine made by Risdon as a subcontractor for Colt. Everyone gets caught up in "correct" but the military didn't really care who made it as long as an approved magazine was shipped/issued with the pistol.Last edited by CH47; 06-24-2008, 11:32 AM.

colt
The inspector marks are GHD does this not make it a colt frame? Or did this inspector put his marks on other makers? From what I can find his mark was on Guy H. Drewry Colt S/N 845,000 to 2,360,600 I can not find that he inspected any other 1911a1 frames. My colt is 1170108 it falls in line with the marks that a colt frame should have with these marks on it. 1943. Let me know if I am off on something.
