    what marks are these?

does anyone know what markes these are? They are on a 1943 colt 1911a1 on the frame under the slide.

The B markings indicate "in process" inspections during manufacture. They also used numbers and geometric symbols for the same.

Clawson's Collectors Guide to the Colt .45 Service Pistols Models 1911 and 1911A1 is an excellent reference if you are interested in these pistols.

      Thanks

So the marks are correct for the 1943 colt USGI pistols? thanks for the help. I would buy the book but I am not a collector of these, I had a trade and was told on another forum that the gun looked all original. The mag was marked R and this seems to be correct for a 1943 pistol colt from a couple of sites I found. Just trying to make sure I did a good trade. Thanks again.

Did you compare the frame serial number to a list of Colt serial numbers?

Often times you will find a Colt slide on a Remington Rand frame or vice versa. If you do not have a list of serial numbers PM the serial number, you can X out the last three if you want, and I will look it up for you.

The R only marked on the top lip of the magazine is for Risdon Mfg, they were a magazine contractor during the war. Their magazines can be found in any of the 1911A1s. C-R on the bottom of the lip indicates a magazine made by Risdon as a subcontractor for Colt. Everyone gets caught up in "correct" but the military didn't really care who made it as long as an approved magazine was shipped/issued with the pistol.

          colt

The inspector marks are GHD does this not make it a colt frame? Or did this inspector put his marks on other makers? From what I can find his mark was on Guy H. Drewry Colt S/N 845,000 to 2,360,600 I can not find that he inspected any other 1911a1 frames. My colt is 1170108 it falls in line with the marks that a colt frame should have with these marks on it. 1943. Let me know if I am off on something.
