I picked up a 1920 commercial artillery luger, it's marked "SLP01" and "S.P. C." on the front of the grip. Any idea what they stand for?

Your description of the Luger as a "1920 commercial artillery" has me very puzzled. No artillery Lugers were manufactured after 1918 and none were ever manufactured for commercial sales. Can you post photos of this?

Originally posted by GWA View Postdhunter, you seem to be avoiding giving an answer about the barrel serial number. The first step in discovering the US history of this gun is to tell whether the barrel is properly serial numbered to the gun. It would be serialized in the same manner as your Erfurt if it were a German police/military piece.
Im not avoiding giving you an answer, The barrel number does not match, as with every other "Germany" marked artillery luger I have ever seen. I was asking about the unit markings unless you forgot.
