Dan, if you look at the holster, there is an eyelet that is missing on one side of the leather tab that has been added to the original holster. It appears to me that the soldier, as mentioned in the history document most likely had two leg straps that were tied to the holes on the tabs, securing it to his leg, either over his pants, or underneath.
