Around 14 million k98ks were made and it is not easy to find an original condition matched one for under 1k and really it is not easy to find a stright up pre-war example period. Back in the 60s and 70s a good Luger was always worth 2 to 3 k98ks so I guess that is about still where we are.
The figures are a little fuzzy for German military Lugers 1908-1945 but I dont believe that they exceeded 2 million made for the entire period. One thing is for sure and that is the attrition was tremendous.
I routinly see re-arsenaled 1911A1s selling for $1200 to 1500 and three years ago I advised a friend that he was crazy to pay $700 for one....now I would drop 1k in a heartbeat for 1911A1(re-arsenaled) in the right condition.
It's all going up. Lugers are the top of the heap for collectors German Pistols (20th century) and it is just a fact of life.
I was moaning when they went up over a $100 and a few years later when a dealer told me they would hit 300 to 350 in a year or two I thought that he needed to be drug tested!Three years later they all at 500-600!
Now I entertain Lugers at 2 to 3k all day long and recently just looked at a byf rig (black grips and mag bottoms, holster and tool all right at mint cond.) for over 4k! He will probably get it and compared to some other 3rd Reich things it may be bargan!
