These are awsome guns! They are basically just like a comically oversized Gew 98. Can you imagine if a soldier got hit by one of those huge 13mm rounds? Devistation. Is this one yours Paul?

Here is a photo of the 13mm Mauser round on the left, a 50cal US round in the center (a blank and the bullet was pulled out slightly) and a 60cal. US round on the right.

Here is a shot of the headstamps of the 13mm Mauser round. I read that Pershing brought this home to the US and made inquiries. The 50cal. developement followed.

The highest number i've seen is 9526.
A T-Gewehr with sn 6474a should be somewhere in the US, i would like to see that one.

Something I would like to own. I have always fanicied having one of these. I have seen a couple for sale in the UK in the past two years but the price tag of around £3500 is above my pocket, given I don't collect WW1 per se. There are one or two in Regimental museums in the UK which I have seen.

Where there different bipods available for these guns? I seem to recall seeing one with, on reflection, what might have been a MG08/15 type arrangement?

                          Cheers, Ade.

Yes, there were 2 types of bipods. The first one is the tubular one like on Paul's rifle, the second one is the MG 08/15 bipod.

According to Jon Speed's new Mauser Archive book, Mauser Oberndorf produced 15,800 of these during the war, and had 1,270 left in inventory at wars end. There were also an undetermined number of semi finished actions as well, many of which were later used to make pressure test devices for large caliber ammunition.

The example imaged here looks to have a nice elm wood stock.
