        Holster Markings

So I do not forget the luger appears to be all matching #'s. Here are the holster markings and holster is black.

        Thank you

The 42 dated banner is a pretty scarce and desirable Luger. The extra marking on this one indicate that is was proofed in England (Birmingham I believe) to comply with British law before being exported from that country. A better look at the proofs could tell you if this was done before or after 1955 but, it really makes no difference.

It's a commercialy marked gun with Eagle over "N" proofs. It would be interesting to see what the full serial number is. There will be an alpha suffix to the four digit s/n you show. Look on the front of the frame under the bbl. With that suffix, we can probably give you a little more info as to it's origin. Also looks like it might have had a sear safety at one time. So probably police issue. Mauser Banner Lugers are sought after by collectors (like me!! ) A desirable piece. The English proof marks are indication of possession by a British citizen/soldier. All British firearms must be proofed before export. So you could assume the pistol was captured by a Brit, taken home as a war trophy, then sold to an exporter. To me, the Brit Proofs do not detract, but add to the provenance/history of the weapon. Other collectors will disagree. Nice holster too!!

              Hi Ronnie,

Don't you think that it was a Luger used by the Police? It seems that it had a sear safety once, look at the small hole in the first picture.

              Just a thought...

Nice Luger and holster by the way! Congratulations.

The pistol had the hole tapped for a sear safety but did not necessarily ever have one. I have seen other of 42 Banners in this configuration. I would imagine that the pistol is in the y block which falls into the range of 1942 police banners. If it is police I would expect it to have a police acceptance stamp.

Yep Doug, that's what I was talking about on the sear safety-- And it's good to hear from George that some came that way. Drilled and tapped, or whatever, but without the safety ever being installed. Learnin' something every day.....

                    Luger

Okay guys any value range on the pistol or holster? I need to tell him something and then I will put him in touch with anyone interested in buying it. Just a reasonable estimate on both would be a help.
