    Patrick.

    Hello Patrick,

Yes, I have documented everything I can about the history of this weapon.
This was mailed home during the Marine's 3 tour late 1967. All he would say regarding the capture, he found it deep inside a tunnel complex. He told me the he picked out the nicest one in a pile. He then planted charges and blew everything up.

Like many other combat vet's he gets rattled when talking about most of his experiences. He still has nightmares, and his health is failing. He was, rather proficient at his job.

As I mentioned before, he's one hell of a Marine!

Very Nice Jack, thanks for sharing.

Yours appears to be made better than mine and r.blue's.

I wonder how many different variations of these are out there?

Good idea for a thread! Show us your VC/NVA tunnel guns!

      Cheers,

        Howard,
Sorry about giving the wrong impression about the photos I posted of the cottage industry piece.....it's not mine and it belongs to a friend. It's for sale if anyone is interested. PM me and I'll give you his number to call.

Haven't a proper tool to measure, but would est. at near 6 lbs.

I still would not recommend shooting any of these pistols.

Assuming it is not improper to ask, what is the approximately value (in the US) of these VC handmade pistols?

In particular, I have a friend who has a VC handmade copy of the U.S. M1911 pistol that was brought back by a US Navy "Underwater Demolition Team" member. Any ideas as to what the VC copy of a M1911 pistol would be worth (I want to make a fair offer to my friend)?

BTW: Were the navy UDT's in the Vietnam-era what we now refer to as navy SEALS?

They were called SEALS back in Vietnam as well. BUDS( Basic Underwater Demolition School), and UDTs (Underwater Demolition Teams) were all part of the SEALS requirements in their training.

During Vietnam there were only two SEAL Teams (ONE and TWO). The rest were called Underwater Demolition Teams. Vietnam era SEALs were essentially UDT guys w/additional screening and training. Both SEALs and UDTs operated in Vietnam and in some cases did similar things. In the 1980s all of the UDTs were renamed as SEAL Teams...
