    Question MP44

    Hello, I have some questions about the MP44, please give me your opinions about it.
    Are all the barrels makermarked, or did they resume this at the and of the war?
    The picture that I show here has the lettercode of Haenel, FXO is this the common letter type ? I have never seen this one.
    What is the meaning of the lettercode aqr?

      fxo were one of the factories that did the final assembly of the guns - though the individual parts may have come from elsewhere?

      I don't know if all MP44 barrels were marked or not - I presume the wartime ones would of had the makers codes on?
      Just had a look at mine and it is coded as qlv which is Erma and is marked with the Eagle/280.

      aqr is R & O Lux, Metallwaren- und Maschinenfabrik A.-G., Marienthal-Bad
      Liebenstein in Thuringen I believe?

            Germans liked marking codes and WaAs so you'd probably find them on almost every single part even the smallest ones.

            I've seen barrels makred with 'bnz' (Steyr), 'fxo' (Haenel) and 'ayf' (Erma).

            Time Bandit is right about the 'aqr' code owner. You can also google out most of the codes.

                Thanks for the information guys.

                What I meant about the FXO marking is the shape of it. This letters lean forward look at the " O " there you can see it for the best.

                Or were there different kind of stamps that they use? What I sure can believe. Are there any of you guys who have FXO stampings on a mp44?
                How do they look like?

                    FXO code on a luger clip. This kind of lettering have I seen in the book
                    "The mkb 42, mp43,mp44 and the sturmgewehr44" from the propaganda photo series Vol.4. on the MP44 page 53

                      Looks like fxo was eletropenned or something. cos is Merzwerk (sp?) is stamped on your gun and was also a major manufacturer of 44's (IIRC). The fxo on my 44 bolt carrier and magazines look like the ones on that pictured magazine

                        Do you know any handguard maker who had used an 'x' code or had 'x' in the code? I have one of this kind.

                        I've also found that single 'x' was possibly used by Rheinisch-Westfaelische Sprengstoff.

                        Can anyone help me?

                        UPDATE: Ok, I got it. It's a 'Lx' signature - but who owned it?

                          I would say the chances are good that the East Germans produced some MP-44 parts until they recieved or produced enough AKs.

                          But however they did produce 8mm Kurz postwar.

                            Here are my Haenel assembled MP44 receivers. What I've noticed on the ones I have here is that the later they are, the more the fxo looked italicized.
