Interested in candid/private Hitler, KIA, and Holocaust photos. Also any AH related memorabilia--silverware, linen, crystal, china... All the best, Chris
You guys ever chat with vets about this stuff. Say there was just piles of stuff all over the place and they'd just walk through and pick up suveniers. Crazy!
My neighbor up the street was in the 103th Inf. Division. He called me up one day and told me to come over, that he had something that he wanted to give me. It was an artillery luger, mismatched, but a great shooter.
I asked him how he got the pistol and he told me that there was a large pile of pistols that the Germans had surrendered and they were all P.38's and that this luger's barrel was sticking up out of the pile and he picked it because it was different.
So I'm certain that they went by these large piles of stuff and took things. I imagine that a large amount of it was burried or stored for surplus.

My understanding is that these particular helmets and equipment still exist, i.e. they are buried underground in Holland. Check out the attached link and look under the entries at the bottom of the page titled "The Big Hole - Holland" and you can see what I am talking about.
Part 3 of the "Big Hole" photo series shows the same photo as posted here.
If you guys look in the helmet forum, there is a very long and very looked at thread showing some of those helmets being dug up. Try a search with the "most views" thread option and you will see it.
