              They are poking the holes so they can't be used again; probably one of the requirements of the Treaty of Versiallies. This was during the period after WWI when the German army was being desolved. As far as the Lugers go, the ones that the GIs didn't get were almost certainly melted down. The same thing with the stacks of Mauser Kar 98s. Damn shame isn't it.

                OH MY FREAKIN' GOD!!! I would kill for just one of those MG42s. I count at least 22 in that picture. Same thing for the helmets, Lugers, and Mausers.

                  Many of the better conditioned Lugers were converted from the military 9mm caliber to the civilian 7.65mm. The military marking were removed and they were sold as the 1920 commercial model. These will have the word 'Germany" stamped on them for export to the US or with British proof marks for the English market.
