I can't tell from your photographs Bill, but is this pistol stamped with the "cross cannon" ordnance mark on the receiver? It looks like it is, but I can't tell. One unique thing about US&S is they were never stamped with this mark. What is the serial number range?

Also are there any "p" proof marks stamped on the receiver or slide? That's always a good way to find out if you have a matching US&S. They shoud match either with or without proof marks.

    Looks like a real beauty!

No crossed Cannons on this one.. Sn: is in the first Group delivered to the Ordnance Board, and the frame proofed with the early (RCD) for Ordnance inspector Robert C. Downie.. This one came straight from the Marine's Family to whom it was issued in WW2...BILL

Excellent ! It was hard to tell from the pictures. The dulite finish looked very nice and matching and I figured I must have been seeing things.

It's getting harder and harder to find these 1911's especially one's that haven't been messed with ! ! ! !

TRULY A REAL GEM COMMANDING TOP DOLLAR ! !
