.45 Shotshells
The .45 auto shotshells are WW2 Military issue.. They were found with this US&S that belonged to a WW2 Marine.. The Shotshells were for survival, and usually issued with a Army Air Corps WW2, C1 Survival Vest.. Which had a intergal .45 holster and a bunch of other survival gear in located in and on the vest... A very hard to find box of US GI military ammo, and a Super rare US GI .45 automatic... BILL

Union Switch & Signal
Looks like a nicely matched pistol and a pretty rare 1911.A1 indeed. Only 55,000 of these were manufactured by Union Switch & Signal. The fewest amount next to Singer, Remington UMC, and Springfield 1911.A1's.
I can't tell from your photographs Bill, but is this pistol stamped with the "cross cannon" ordnance mark on the receiver? It looks like it is, but I can't tell. One unique thing about US&S is they were never stamped with this mark. What is the serial number range?
Also are there any "p" proof marks stamped on the receiver or slide? That's always a good way to find out if you have a matching US&S. They shoud match either with or without proof marks.
Looks like a real beauty!
Steve
