i've been gone and a few days. It's good to be back.
Here are a few photos i found on my computer that i thought that you might find interesting. It is one that you will not see every day.
It is a walther ppk procured by the munich police department ( polizei direktion munchen). These were manufactured in the mid 1930's, 1936-1937. It is estimated that 450 were procured.
There are walther pp's marked "pdm" but they are more common.
One of the interesting things about this pistol is the way that it is manufactured. It is a bottom magazine release pistol. Almost all ppk's are push button magazine release. There were some made in 9mmk that were bottom magazine release.
Also, this pistol's frame is made of duraluminum. The slide is steel. If you will notice it is a darkish blue color. Quite often this has faded over the years and turned a copperish/ gold color. Copper is one of the alloys in duraluminum. This pistol's frame is in near mint condition and has not started to turn yet.
Duraluminum was developed in germany. It was popular in the aircraft industry and the manufacture of zeppelin's. It was thought that it would be a desirable feature in the handgun industry because it reduced the weight of the pistol. Companies like walther and sauer both used duraluminum or "dural" frames but sales were low.
I have included some photos of the "correct" magazine as well. If you will notice, there is not a cut out in the magazine tube for the push button release. These are very rare magazines.
