    Dear Undertaker,

Always the bloody same...stupid laws. In the uk a relatively lightly de-activated MP40 is like £1800 and more. In Germany its around half that for a gun thats so lightly de-activated by UK standards that it beggers belief, and would actually be highly illegal here.

In the US they pay like $45,000 for a live MP40 when in Germany a live one can be purchased and held legally for $4000 (only with the special licence of course). Prices for firearms vary so much. Personally I think alot of guns are way over priced but if you can have it legally then the price will only rise and rise.

In my humble opinion the MP44 is a really nice gun but not worth $13000 when you their is so much value in the USA in other areas with regards to gun prices.I would buy the semi-auto repro and pay like $13000 off my house. The MP40...? Rust is always the problem with them... Not worth a fortune but still a nice sexy gun, however I think too many people see then through rose tinted specs (I know I did too much clint Eastwood).

Just mt two cents, I know others will disagree.

    Regards Craig.

Fully auto weapons in the US are so expensive because a private citizen can not legally own or aquire one unless it has been registered prior to 1968. And since 1968 no more have been allowed to be registered. So that leaves a big supply and demand problem which has caused a giant rise in prices of registered guns in the recent years. For example I paid $7400 for my MP44 four years ago and only $2900 for my M1A1 Thompson seven years ago. The Thompson is valued at about $15000-$17000 now. Now there are probably thousands of MP40's, MP44's, MG 42's and other full auto weapons from both Germany and Japan that were brought back into the country after the war by veterans but never were registered and if you want to break the law you can buy one of these for less then a couple of thousand. Of course if you get caught with it, it will cost you a whole lot more then if you bought a registered one, plus some government paid time away from the family. Ray

always comes back to the old "supply and demand"
while you can;t export into the usa and they have a limited supply I guess the price will go crazy.
While governments keep changing the rules the prices will always vary.
Wow! 15-17K for a thompson...I paid $4185 for a 1928 & case yet I know there are heaps of M1A1'a in the Ukraine for less than $500 each.

        getting a little off topic

A repro working MP44 sounds cool to me. I also bought a Shoei repro when I already owned a real one. STG44/MP44 always an absolute classic in my book.

        regards

They were expensive M1A1's!!!! you used to be able to buy them by the tonne for very very cheep per gun but they have allmost all of them have been bought up
but none could be sent to america so most were cut to be sent over as parts kits but they could be and quite a few have been registerd here and beautifull mint examples but the blanks for them work out at £35/100!!!or they can be bought as new specs for quite cheep

In Italy we don't have these problems!!!...A machine-gun could be permanently transformed in semiauto for a civilian owner

Yes you have some very nice laws in Italy. Also you raised the speed limit on motorways to 150 where others go the opposite direction. I like that attitude

But one thing is silly; the ban against 9x19 pistols in civilian ownership. As if 9x21 was any better

                    Bill,

What part(s) of 922 do you think would screw this up?

So does ANYBODY know if these are importable? I just found out that the 2 FG42s I had on order went from $4200 apiece to $8500 apiece. No, I have not discussed the situation with my wife yet ...... If the semi auto MP44s are legal and can be bought for much less than that, I will definitely get one for reenacting. The FG42 would look so much better for my FJ impression though.

Just to bring this back to the top, these are now being offered in the US. The semi-auto MP-38 that fires from a closed bolt and has it's folding stock permanently folded up so it can be classified as a pistol has an asking price of $3,495.00 while the semi-auto MP-44 is going for $3,995.00 I also saw an ad in Shotgun News for the Kurz ammo.

Same here. Owning a full auto is only possible for collectors. Bolt action is no problem here, you just have to be 18y or older
Now if I just had the money for those weapons from SSD...

They are both able to be imported into the US. The MP-38 has the stock fixed in the folded position. Making it a LARGE pistol. Not a short barreled rifle. the price is $3500.00. If I had it I would buy one.

I have considered cashing in some old stocks and getting one of the MP-44 models before a new assault gun ban takes place which is inevitably coming with the selection of presidential candidates we have on deck.
