The theme of my collection is WWII East Front, infantry weapons of Germany and the Soviet Union. I have a reasonably representitive set, but still have a long way to go

Sniper collector
Hi all,
I collect snipers from WW2 thru Vietnam. I formerly collected class 3 pieces but gave that up when Clinton became president. I am getting nearer to retirement age and will be selling the collection in a few years. Started collecting Kriegsmarine and U.S. Navy militaria lately. That is what I will collect in retirement. Here is the list.

As stated the tough part is finding a CSA used Whitworth for sale. I have handled maybe 4 to 6 orignial Whitworths...that have been offered for sale...none of them met even the general profile of what most believe were Confederate used/imported. I have been "aware" of these rifles since the late 1960s and have read and studied a number of articles on them since about that time. There was a nice Whitworth or Whitworth style volunteer rifle for sale at the last Nashville Civil War show (Dec 04) by a solid dealer from Alabama. I also know that this same dealer has sold at least 2 other Whitworth's in the last 5 years or so. The rub is this: none could be proven to have CSA provonance or have most of the detail characteristics of those few that do.Originally posted by tankdriver
It would be interesting to see what a solid documented or even accepted CSA Whitworth with scope would command these days. I would venture the value at between $50,000 and $100,000 given the prices the southern made rifles of comparable rarity (but not romance) have recently realized.
I can add that at least half if not more of all of the Whitworths that I have seen for sale have been cased...original...they are beautiful rifles..but not Confederate.
Don't forget the Kerr rifles, there were probably (although only slightly) more of these used by Southern sharpshooters than Whitworths. I never recall seeing a Kerr rifle for sale.Comment
