    Good News (hopefully)

    Something worth knowing...

    Yesterday in parliament

    October 24 session:

    Replica weapons
Television, cinema, theatre, museums and battle re-enactment societies will not be caught by a replica weapons clampdown in the violent crime reduction bill, home office minister Baroness Scotland of Asthal pledged. Government amendments would protect such "specific interests". They would allow a person to manufacture, modify, sell or import realistic imitation firearms "for the purposes of museums or galleries, for TV, film or theatrical production or for historical re-enactments" and would exempt de-activated firearms and certain antiques from the definition of a "realistic imitation firearm".

Doubtless the Gun Control (freak) Network and suchlike will kick up a fuss, but we may be in the clear here for continued deact collecting in the UK.

They may have applied a rare bit of evidence based reasoning and recognised that 99% of the problem with misuse of replica guns is to do with cheap replicas of modern handguns getting into irresponsible hands. Deacts held by collectors and expensive replicas used by reenactors were never the problem in the first place due to their expense and/or the maturity of their owners. A 'catch all' law would also have led to ridiculous anomalies such as a replica Civil War cannon being more legally restricted than a working modern bolt-action rifle.

I suppose this means that modern weapon replicas will no longer be available to collectors for collecting's sake, e.g. the Japanese FG-42 replicas. But it could be a lot worse.

    Fingers crossed.

Replicas I couldn't give two hoots about, but my deacts.... I always thought it would be rediculous to ban deacts. I can't infact see the banning of deacts in the near future either. Replicas, who cares? Buy the real McCoy if you want it.

Put it this way if they where to ban deacts think about how many collectors would be taking the government to court as effectively they would be making your collection worthless. The government would have to at least compensate every signal person who owns a deact and that would never be possible, the government got cold feet big time from the 1997 Handgun ban in which their funds where stretched to the limit compensating hand gun owners. Think about how many deacts there are out there compared to when handguns were banned? 10 X , 50X 1000 X more ?, there would be no way of the government being able to buy all the deacts back.

I personaly think that all the government will do is ban the sales of cheap replicas so as to stop them getting into the wrong hands easly.

          Hi Mauser,
I don't think deacs will be included in the legislation. But if they are the government will not be handing out any compensation, most gun owners did not recieve a penny when they handed in their weapons.......
The government's attitude is 'f##k you, we will do what we like' - Just look at that fool Prescot. He wants to concrete over the South East and build permanent Gipsy camps everywhere........nice

            Compensation.

I would think any possibility of obtaining reasonable compensation from Blair would be next to impossible.

Replica guns and BB guns some regulation is needed , real fire arms - if current regulations post Hungerford and Dunblane are not sufficent then something is badly wrong.
The review of firearms following these tragic events should be enough.
If the goverment are trying to take dangerous weapons off the streets its the ones which fire bullets and are in the hands of criminals or those with criminal intent which should be the focus of this act.

You really have to wonder what world they live in and why we give them our vote.
Seems that when elected they really don't want to listen until its time for an election , then they become all ears and everything to all men.

I saw a post on U-Boat net were some police officers landed at a Museum in Newport and started asking questions about the certification of a 1914-18 deck gun.
Well I can just imagine this beauty being pulled out by a gang member .
What size of a pocket would you need to carry it in .
Sometimes those who enforce the law and I say this with the greatest of respect do make complete and utter idiots of themselves by acting like this.
Political correctness taken to the extreme.
