                Why is it that some of you UK fellows in your "dissertaions" on this subject keep referring to these "deacs" as weapons ?. Once boned up to inanimate object status they are no longer a weapon. So to continue using the word weapon in describing deacs only feeds those duffers that want to class/call them a weapon to ban them more easily.

                  Because legally they are 'weapons'. It's a question of whether said weapon is legal to own (e.g. a sword) or not legal to own (e.g. a working machine gun) in UK law.

                  To give you another example, a bayonet is still a 'weapon' regardless of whether it's blade is razor sharp or totally blunt.

                  The nature of an object and it's possession and / or usage are separate legal issues.

                    Quite - and you can be charged with armed robbery for holding up a bank with a cucumber in your carrier bag, or even shot dead by the police for carrying a...chair leg

                      Sad but true, a guy was shot dead for carrying a chair leg, the officer who shot him has been cleared of all charges 'he was seen brandishing a weapon' What I can't understand is the man was shot in the back of the head . A Police state . Tim.

                        My brother is an armed cop, and a good friend, who is a member here, is also a policeman. Without wanting to get into an over blown debate, the policemen were told the guy was carrying a shotgun - the same scenario with the shooting on the tube - misinformation - the police on the scene can only go by the information they are given, and then make their decisions as the situation progresses. Was the guy shot in the back of the head? I don't know.
                        Police state? I don't think so.......Our boys in blue are trying to do the job with both hand tied behind their backs...... You can blame the limp-wristed liberal human rights creeps for that..........

                          Mark ; I am not surprised that english law still considers a deac a weapon , damn shame !.
                          Such deacs funny enough cannot be imported into the US because under the ATF definitions they would need to have had the receivers torch cut to an alarming extent ( in separate bits ) to be considered not a firearm. Much like the Machinegun parts kits allowed in the US - all torched up !.

                            Actually you are right, under English law a deac is not either a firearm or a weapon. That's why this new law regarding "imitation" firearms is causing bother for deac collectors.

                            It's right to say anything can be a weapon if it is used to intimidate or used to inflict injury. A deac gun used to pistol whip someone would now make it legally a weapon, just as if a chair leg was used in a similar fashion.

                            In the US, only the receiver of a gun is considered a weapon and has to be cut-up. The rest of the weapon, the barrel, stock, firing-pin and all the other bit's and bobs can be owned and sold legally, albeit some restrictions on magazines in some states.

                            In the UK, the receiver has to cut in some way - not as severe as in the US. But also the barrel must be plugged with a rod welded in, parts of the frame have to be cut, the trigger mech welded solid. Practically every part has to damaged in some way. However, there are no restrictions on magazines.

                              Nice point Steve, and so true...after starting this thread I now have to say something about the outcome....

                              ...after reading the minutes of the meetings I have to eat my words on the UK Replica Gun ban...it looks like De-acts are saved, a reprieve for now.I honestly thought they were going the same way as Brococks (which in its original form the bill would of outlawed). Call me Mister Cynical but maybe somebody actually told Ms Blears that airsoft was going to cost a fortune in compensation and that a BB gun cannot be converted to fire live rounds... However it will no longer be possible to make your own blank firing replicas by the looks of things....so re-enactors are a little put out their. No more Marushin MP40 conversions.

                                hi guys i'm a little late in this debate but i was getting worried about the ban because i have'nt had a chance to buy any deact yet ...i woudnt buy it for profit but because a K98 was the standard issue rifle and it would look good in my display next to my helmets....so is it a case of rush and get a good one now or can i wait a little longer ..please can anyone f/ward me some good dealers..i've had a look at ryton arms and target arms..are there anyone out there ..
