    its my lucky day! AGAIN!

    Hello all...
take a look at what I was given for free today! I dont know ANYTHING about P38's but this one is marked cyq 5071 m on the frame, slide and part of the barrel is marked 071 and another cyq...can anyone tell me an aprox year of manufacture..also in the same box is another slide and barrel, the slide is marked
47 d ac 45 the spare barrel is unmarked minus waffen ampts ..the person who gave this to me just said "here you like that german stuff, you take it and sell it or do something with it!" there is a cracked grip on one side..and the finish is not the best! but what can you say to free...got it home and lubed the crap out of it..thought I would see what you gents have to say..also , I am including the pics of the browning auto shotgun I was given at the same time by the same person! can you have a better day? any help with thoughts and info on the P38 especially a ballpark value would be very appreciated...thanks..chad

Chad, you are pathetic!!! You DO get the best deals in town. That old "hump-backed" Browning scattergun is WAY-COOL!! Muy Bueno, as we would say down here!!
Aaah, but the CYQ, now there is what really trips my trigger. The rough finish (not the rust) is typical of this wartime mfg. If it didn't have that, you would be suspicious of a rework. --- Haul out the Break-Free, slather all the parts, and let it sit overnight. You'll be surprised at how much crud will come off. At the very least, you'll stop the rust and clean a bunch of it off.
What about the box? That looks pretty interesting. And the papers in it? What's it's history? What about the spare parts in the box?
This is later war production by Spreewerk. They contracted to produce P38s just like there were many producers of carbines. I'll look in my references to see if I can come up with at production date.
                  You Lucky Dog!!!

Your P.38 was made in early March 1944 in Spreewerk factory, Hradek nad Nisou (in German: Grottau), Czech Republic. Spreewerk, Hradek nad Nisou (in Spandau never produced) was the second factory that had produced P.38 since june 1942. Mauser started production later. Nice piece of history, especially for me. I am Spreewerk fan. The former factory is still almost unaltered and for sale now. It will be cheap I think...

                          Super P38 Chad !

Chaps in England and including myself, can now only indulge in fond and happy past memories - unless you want a deactivated pistol of course!

                          Regards,

                          David

                              Chad,
Are those original lacquered ww2 9mm rounds in the box with the pistol? They look like it to me!
