Thanks for posting the photos of that gold screamer of a RMBO Barry.

I remember the gold finish on that dagger was debated, could it be genuine? The final verdict was that it is.

In my humble opinion this gold RMBO is one of the best daggers of the Third Reich, and so for $17K its not a bad buy.

A much better buy than one of Witty's numbered SS daggers IMO

I sold this near mint RMBO with hangers @ $17k in 1995. Balancing the relative factors of condition, completeness, inflation, and current bear market sentiment - I would say that $8k is top collector to collector price for your piece. Subject to seeing the blade's condition.

From my point of view gold is gold - which doesn't tarnish. Whereas the weaker many times off color/tanished "gold" also seen for example on some supposed German Army and Luftwaffe "General Officer's" daggers is a zinc chromate* pre-finish that some makers used to try and prevent a certain type of corrosion. * Discussed at length at other times and places - I'm NOT referring to the paint by the same name. Only because so few have ever had one in hand to appreciate the timeless elegance of design and quality of construction.
