    Diplomatic Dagger

Is this worth taking more of a look at? I ran across it at a shop, way out of my league, but if it is original I would like to purchase it. It seems that Eickhorn was the only firm to make a gold diplomatic dagger. If this gets the initial approval, I will take photos of the blade tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help!

    Sorry for the

You don't see those floating around 'on the loose'.

Looks to me that is a authentic RMBO dagger. Rarer than a Diplomatic (IMHO). Finish is worn, but they didn't hold up well. If the blade looks decent and the price is fair. I would be there at opening and close the deal.
(check the tang nut on the eagles head, if undisturbed- that's a bonus)

In other words, - I like it.

I appreciate the opinion. I would be pleased to hear more!

I also would be interested in a valuation of the piece as it sits.

      Thanks!

I did not pull out the blade. When I go back I will.

Is there anywhere to locate a comporable sale of a dagger like this?

I would value this between 12k to 15k as it sits and if the blade is nice. The price would be much higher if the entire piece was in mint or near mint condition (only because it's a RMBO)

About right for the condition, no great buy here IMO.

It depends on how much the shop wants

Shea had a nice gold RMBO for sale for ages - it went on sale and I think it went for $10k in the end - and that dagger had a nice gold finish so I think in the current market and given most of the gold finish is gone - I would value this dagger at 8-8500 max - I have a really nice RMBO Eickhorn with a great gold finish and I reckon - if I tried to sell it I might get $12k - maybe - the market is pretty grim ATM and trying to find a buyer with $12k is not easy

I agree with you on this, assuming the blade is good on this piece I'd be happy at reg usd 8k

I sold this near mint RMBO with hangers @ $17k in 1995. Balancing the relative factors of condition, completeness, inflation, and current bear market sentiment - I would say that $8k is top collector to collector price for your piece. Subject to seeing the blade's condition.
