It's,so,hard to say for sure on some,of these. Soon as you think everything is good you notice something you don't like. I'm likening this sword but now that the maker mark is being questioned I'm doing the same. That's why I'm so scared to buy one I love these pieces and would like to own one. But every time I,start to question the piece I'm looking at. Just like this poster is starting to do.

SS Degen
Sword is a good early all nickel version with early trade Mark. I have owned three of these and still have one. Early versions did not have the inner tang nut cover that later ones have, certainly not on my swords, later swords seem to have the cover. This sword sold on CG auction was too cheap, it was mine, numbered to Willi Fortenbacher, won't do auction again. Previous auction sword sold much better!

Maker
Just for my comfort, I have exhausted my limited resources and cannot come up with this krebs maker mark as being authentic.. Is there a reference book, site, other examples you can give. I have researched a few krebs maker marks as being " really versions" . Nothing close to this example tho
Please advise and TY

Nice sword and as Barry said, this is the earliest style TM found on SS swords. The second pattern in a shield can also be found on early SS officer swords. Either is fine and I always like to see that stepped fitting the pommel screws into. That is unique to SS swords, you can not convert a police sword into a SS sword like this.
Best Wishes,
Bob
