    Army Officer for Review

Hello all, I'm looking to get some opinions on an officer's dagger. Unmarked blade. With portepee and scabbard. I know the unmarked blades are of some contention some times. As always, any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

These Heer dagger looks like late unmarked type, produced by Anton Wingen Solingen.
Unfortunately blade is cleaned, and the scabbard is replaced.
        Portepee is original.

Thanks for the reply! Curious why you think the scabbard was replaced? So you're saying it's not an original scabbard or it's just not matching to the dagger? Also blade doesn't look brand new, still some wear/grime on it so not sure why you think it's been cleaned? There are obviously many out there with blades much cleaner and shinier than this one. Just curious why you are thinking those things. Vielen Dank!

The answer "might be" and Mr. Schlange can help me out as well. Is that the pommel, crossguard and scabbard usually/should share the same patina. It appears IMHO, that this might be a classic "parts dagger". All original parts from different manufactures put together post war. Unfortunately not a uncommon practice. Such a shame!! I actually just ran downstairs to look at all 4 of my Eickhorn army daggers, vet purchased, and ALL share the same patina with the exception of my "over the shoulder" makers mark which all parts stated above are aluminum I think.
Not much patina on that one, or I got just plane lucky. Hope this helps, if anything I've stated above is incorrect, please chime in. I am newer collector and you NEVER stop learning in this hobby!!

IMO dagger is fine, nothing wrong with scabbard, blade just showing it's age.

Anton Wingen never used this crossguard. I will agree the finish seems to differ between the scabbard and hilt.

Always a good sign when scabbard and hilt share the same tone of patina.

I'd like to see an aluminum hilt Eickhorn with the over the shoulder mark. That's a first for me

Frank Me To ! Eickhorn did make an aluminum hilt & scabbard dagger but it was early in the period.
