Original early Hammesfahr Solingen NSKK dagger, from Nordsee.
Unfortunately, it seems that the blade was cleaned.

            Excessively cleaned
All daggers have been cleaned especially during the period they were worn

This is a nice, early dagger -- excessively cleaned as previously mentioned -- but I'm wondering about the scabbard. The body appears to be almost intact -- from the one photo we see -- but given that this set would be 80 years old now, and would have been regularly worn (and therefore dropped and dinged throughout the 1930s, at least), the scabbard appears to be in pristine condition. The body would have been painted, probably by the dagger's owner, in the mid-1930s when the NSKK became autonomous from the SA and the decision was made to change from brown scabbards to black, but the signs of wear and tear on the hardware as well as the scabbard's body should still be seen to some degree. Perhaps it's still there and the photo isn't showing it?

Just a thought on a fine, early piece; thanks for sharing it.

The scabbard is dented, but not scratched, and a very deep chocolate brown.
Some slight dents on the fittings at the top.

Just how do you people come up with this "excessively cleaned" BS based upon these photos? I see a blade that appears to be uncleaned, and I have seen many.

If it's too excessively cleaned for you send it to me.

It was not meant as a criticism just a nod to the do not clean brigade
It's just as likely that it was "well" polished during the time it was worn as after 45
Nice honest dagger I would like to own

                          Ps
They will accept damage and nicotine staining as history
But knock a dagger if it's been cleaned or polished

Any guide as to what it is worth?

At the risk of adding more "BS" to this conversation, I would suggest that you visit several of the dealers' websites and check on the daggers shown there; that should give you at least some idea of what similar pieces are being offered for.

                              Cheers,

                              Br. James
