    The grip plates are not stag, they're wood fashioned to look like stag which is usually indicative of late war production. I can't say that the grips are period or not but I agree with John that I've never seen jigged wood grips on an etched KS98.

          Hi, thanks. Well in hand, the overall wear is all the same. There is a slice of the grip plate splintered off on the edge and that surfaace is again well worn. An out of the wookwork piece. It was given to me to do whatever I please as I was owed some favors. Best, Bill

            This damage is not caused by the worn.
            Someone's quite hard cleaned whole bayonet, especially blade and Im. stag handle.
