Go to the Axis History Forum and you will find reference to an SS-Ustuf Rudi Wetzel who is listed as part of Battle Group Peiper in February 1943 and as commander of the 1st platoon, 11th company.
The forum discussion concerns atrocities alleged to have been carried out by Peiper's men, in Russia.
Your information that Wetzel was k.i.a. at Kursk fits in with him being alive and under Peiper's command in February 1943, the date of the list being prior to the Kursk campaign.
This is supported by Patrick Agte's detailed biography "Jochen Peiper" which notes Rudi Wetzel as w.i.a. during the operation to retake Kharkov, in February 1943.
I wish you well in finding firm documentation linking your dagger with this officer.

    Best wishes

    Barry

Having a named piece really adds something special to the history of the dagger! Good luck on finding some provenance-but even if you don't-if you are sure it belonged to him thats worth something! (just not money )

I was hoping to see the upper left hand cross guard area I pointed out, and some other places where I had some concerns. But I think that I have already seen enough to provide a basis for an opinion. FP

Cool-seems like we're all in agreement! Great dagger with a great dark motto for a chain!
